The History of the Lychgate

The lych-gate is made of oak, taken from one of the oldest farms of Hyde, which stood in Church- street, opposite the old School. It bears the inscription "Erected by Thomas Ferns Handford, Fern Lea, Hyde, 1885." In the photograph the original gates can be seen. Older members of the congregation will remember these.
